Ph.D. Options

The following departments offer Ph.D. options in linguistics or applied linguistics:

Center for Language Science

The Center for Language Science (CLS) is an interdisciplinary working group of linguists, psycholinguists, applied linguists, and cognitive neuroscientists who share an interest in language acquisition and bilingualism. The CLS meets weekly to discuss research, read papers together, share new methodological developments, and practice giving conference talks. A particular interest is in developing collaborative research projects across the disciplines. For a look at the weekly activities of the CLS, click here.

Graduate Linguistics Minor

The doctoral minor provides interested students with an opportunity to complete a program of scientific study focused on the nature, structure and use of human language. The minor is designed to cover the foundations of linguistics by reviewing fundamental core areas such as phonology, syntax and semantics, and additional areas such as morphology, sociolinguistics, and historical linguistics.

Requirements for the minor: 15 credits

Prescribed Courses (6 credits):

Additional Courses: 9 credits
