I am an Assistant Professor of Spanish and Linguistics in the Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese at Penn State. My areas of research are phonetics and laboratory phonology. My research focuses on the phonetic correlates and phonological aspects of prosody, with special emphasis on the effects of prosody at the segmental level. More generally, I am interested in studying mechanisms of speech enhancement and reduction and furthering our understanding of phonetic variation in speech production. My research and teaching interests also include language variation and change, historical linguistics, bilingualism, contact linguistics, and the expression of paralinguistic meaning through intonation.
